I think that it's silly to be fixated on the negative bias that we developed in the early days (decades?) of CD replay. If you don't ever want the CD to be good as vinyl or tape no matter what because of what once was, then fine, leave it alone. It's your loss. But as soon as you are ready to explore what is possible with the common silver disc, welcome aboard the got-more-music bus.
Now that you are rediscovering all of your old CDs and buying piles of new ones, you have indeed found the world's best CD player. Or at least one of them. I think that's all that really matters.
