Finding Album Art for Already Ripped Music
« on: 5 Aug 2010, 11:52 pm »
When I started ripping my 3000 cd collection to hard disk several years ago, the software I was using didn't download the album art for many disks.  Does anyone know of software that can scan a large library and attach album art for those flac files that do not have it?  Now that I am uing a graphical display for my streaming software, this matters.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What program are you using for playback?  iTunes and J. River Media Center (and I'm sure many others) can search and 'install' the artwork for you.

Tag and Rename will add album art but I have never tried to automate it.  It may be possible but I cannot tell you how at the moment.

I use rip or iTunes mostly, but they do get the artwork wrong from time to time which then I use wikipedia, bn.com and amazon.com.. or you can do a image google search.

I use mp3tag from a recommendation in another thread.  It works great.

My J. River Media Center will automatically drop a jpg file into my artist/album file but I have to go thru them 100% before I back up my files as they aren't always accurate. Amazon is a good source for covers and Allmusic is a good source for checking accuracy.

And you can build custom search schemes to check Wal-Mart, Rhino, and other sites.

Can you get the complete artwork and liner notes or just an image of the cover? This is one big issue keeping me from going discless.

Have not seen "Liner Notes" artwork.  You may have to scan your own, but with a large collection that can be time consuming task.

There is an application called BLISS (which has recently been added to the VORTEXBOX distribution.

Not liner notes, but with Foobar you can get lyrics and biography plus artist pictures to show for each artist or album.
I have many CD's which have zero liner notes, so I find this much more useful.

I guess I could be a little more clear. When I do decide to go discless, I'll still buy cd's, and then rip them lossless. But I'll still be buying cd's.

Not to mention, cd's are a much better deal if you can stand to wait a week for shipping on Amazon. Out of the approaching 600 discs I have now I have paid an average of somewhere under $9 per disc with shipping. Which is cheaper than a lossless album and you still get all the liner notes. Imo the liner notes are part of the full package. You wanna give me the music only? Don't charge me the same. Anyway, lately I've been finding even better deals and have been paying an average of about $6 with shipping for most albums. I find the desireable range to be "very good" on up.
