computer speaker parts

hi all,

After about a year of use, my Creative T10 speakers began to have a scratchy volume pot. Ok, so they were just inside of warranty. Atempting to contact bia email Creative Labs yielded no email returns.

The warranty meanwhile ran out. So when I attempted to open up the speakers and after loosening up the nuts holding the Volume and tone controls in place, and of course the four screws holding the back part of the case together, I was successful in opening up the speaker with the main amp in it. Now, when I opened it up, the tone control pot fell apart in my hand. What joy. So now I am trying to locate those two parts the volume and tone controls. If I can't get them myself, then if there is someone around on the board that could (if you have a pair) tell me what the values of those parts are?

I finally did find on the web a phone number for Creative, but they don't know what the values are, and all they do when replacing a piece of gear, they just toss the defective one and send the person a replacement. I am getting another pair from Tiger Direct as a refervished set. But I still would like to get these fixed. In our throw away society, it's a shame sometimes to just throw something away that maybe a 5 dollar bill would fix.

Anyway, thanks to all that can help.

IMO I think you should find out how to measure it with a mulitmeter or something so you can get the right, I doubt most people who own these are wiling to open theirs to find out.

Well, the volume control needs to be removed so you can do the measurement correctly without measuring the whole circuit. The tone control is in two pieces. So the latter will be impossible to measure.
