No disrespect as I bet it will sound awesome, but IMO no studio DEAD will ever touch the magic that they have attained in many of their live shows!

etree.org > legal as far as I know and most of the Miller boards are INCREDIBLE :thumb:

No disagreement here. The Dead were all about live shows. But the opportunity to have the studio albums cut from the original analog tapes at RTI on 180g vinyl is something I just can't pass up :thumb:

I'm sure they will sound divine , esp on your amazing system :D

Happy Belated to Jerry, his  B-day was yesterday, from seeing JGB at the Warfield to nine nite Dead stands at MSG, there will never be anything like him again. At least we can live vicariously through (IMO) the greatest library of live music ever created :thumb:

Don't forget all the Dick's Picks and Road Trips.

I bet that vinyl will be sweet!!  Might even have to buy it myself and bring it over to a buddy's house to listen to it.

Those are great quality recordings as well :)

Nothing too good lasts forever as alot of websites have been told not to distribute free live Dead anymore. But the band (Grateful Dead) have always said, once we are done playing, the music is yours (fans).  They were never about selling there live music or how much $ they could make. It was there undying passion to play which kept them goin  at such a high level for 30+yrs.

Hey!

Why not just get your own TT set up  Even a decent basic TT set up will blow away many if not all CDPs out there.

Once you've experienced an album that you love on vinyl LP cut from analoge master tape... (even from digital master is still better than CD)... it will be hard to go back to CD seriously!

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Buddy,

I am well aware of what a TT setup can do.   :thumb:

I owned a Linn LP12 for a dozen years or so (longest I have owned any single piece of audio gear), but sold it a few years ago due to lack of use.  I kept all of my records (probably around 300 or so), record cleaner, and all the associated tools of the trade.

To my ears, a decent or basic TT setup doesn't blow away today's digital front ends.  But we can leave that discussion to a different thread.

Hey!

Cool.  You know I don't understand why some people who still have vinyls just keep them in a garage and not listen to them

Anyway, not a bad idea to grab the box set especially if they are limited edition. Lots of OOP LPs sometime go up in price later on. There are some albums that I didn't buy back than on LP and now they are rare, hard to find and expensive.  :?

Take care,
Budd :thumb:

Here are a few reasons:

1.  My digital front end sounds very good.
2.  I can access all of my Grateful Dead music (over 20,000 songs across 250+ albums/shows) with a click of a remote or mouse.
3.  I don't have to clean anything before listening.

Very true Berto! I meet Charlie Miller years ago right before he turned into Steve Kimock's archivist. He was just traveling along side recording everything. then got hired I suppose. Good guy. I was listening to his work on the 2-13 & 14-70 yesterday and today. Those ended up being what my Jerry B-day celebration revolved around.

TT or no, I cant pass up owning these reissues. Im sure Ill get a chance to hear em.

Edit: Pre-order from Dead.net for the extra 7" and poster.

Berndt

all the rhino/warner reissues have been really nice, IMHO.
Haven't had a bad one yet. The new reissues sound much better than the originals.

Is not a live vs studio thing. It just another sweet GD goodie.

kinda funny when you think about it! Back in the day they had to virtually give away their music as nobody wanted it. But now The Greatfull Dead is more popular than they could have possibly ever dreamed of.

They were damn popular back in the day and filthy rich.   Every concert I went to was sold out. :wine:

Some of the jams in those two Fillmore East shows you mention are some of the greatest R&R I've ever heard.  I play them often when I truly want to rock out.  The sad thing is practically no one has heard them.
