New job, new office --> new desktop sound setup
« on: 30 Jul 2010, 04:57 pm »
Got a new job, now sharing a decent-sized office, which is a step up from a cubicle.

So naturally, I'm shopping around for amp/dac/speakers/sub.

I already have a Tec-on 55 tube amp with a DAC that I like. However, I'm a little concerned leaving the exposed tubes sitting on my desk, with curious folks walking around. Also, since I'm sharing an office, I may not be able to play anything for extended periods of the day. That could mean a lot of power off/on. It would definitely have to be turned off every night as I'm leaving.

So maybe an Icon with speakers and sub is easier. I would have no problems leaving it powered on all the time, and the unassuming shape to the amp could mean it would be left alone from curious fingers.
I do like my new coworkers and all, but you know...

So;
Can someone offer feedback on the S1 speaker vs the new SX speaker?
How is the sub connected to the amp? Is it using the line out, or Y-split speaker cables?
Is the upgraded power supply a Good Thing?

I assume nobody has ideas on how to save some on a package buy, so I may just have to cough up and be happy.

Given that you are sharing office space ... would you consider headphones ... there are plenty of good offerings ... that may equal or rival the sound from speakers at same price level - you would be able to listen to your phone at much louder level ... without offending anyone ...

Yea, I have headphones, that I used while working in cubicles.
I was hoping to move up from that now, tho.
I do have long-ish stretches of time where my coworker isn't in, and/or won't mind listening to tunes
