I'm actually pretty pumped. I was just going to be using a nice AVR as a stereo preamp but then I read on Emotiva's site they are coming out with this uber DAC in October and that if you pair it with the ERC-1 cd player (which I own) it takes it up a whole new level. However now I'll need a passive preamp to connect all these devices since the new uber DAC doesn't have HT bypass.

I've learned a lot today. Thanks guys.
Nice choice.  My Dodd buffer is the most transparent piece of gear I have ever owned and that is too many pieces over the years.

I have 2 recommendations: 1) there are a ton of 6DJ8/6922 tube variants that sound very good.  2)  get the Sonicap Platinum upgrade - VERY nice.

Enjoy.

Oh man you guys are just too cool. thanks for the link there, lol, I will definitely practice soldering before I attempt the kit.

And dBe, thanks for the recommendations, I definitely want to go with the bypass cap since it isn't an expensive option in this case.

I wish I had the slick woodworking skills that many of you have, I've seen the work some of you have managed with the kit, but I imagine the Dodd chassis with faceplate and knobs will dress up my room juuust fine by itself.
