OT, some speaker help please.
« on: 27 Jul 2010, 12:53 pm »
There are a bunch of smart guys here and I have a problem that has me stumped and am hoping for some help. It has nothing to do with AVA except that I am a fan and need some help. Please skip this and accept my apologies for posting off topic.

I have a pair of Infinity IM 4.1. I talked a friend of mine into getting a used pair for himself. He has a problem that I don't understand and am hoping for some help.

He is using a somewhat cheap Denon receiver. One speaker works just fine. the second one emits a full on bass signal from the subwoofer whenever a signal is given it. so bad you have to shut it off immediately. We have switched the wires from the receiver, problem seems to be with the speaker. doesn't matter which channel the speaker is hooked up to, still has the problem. We hook the speaker up to a different amplifier, no problem.

so, there seems to be some sort of interaction between that receiver and that one speaker that I just can't figure out.

I am stumped and would appreciate help. If I haven't provided enough information please let me know what else would be helpful.

Again, thanks for any help.

You may want to move this thread to the Lab.  You may reach a much broader audience.

good luck

Simon, please give me a call at 651-330-9871 regarding this strange speaker issue.  Maybe with a bit more evidence it can be resolved.

Thanks,

Receiver unstable at low frequencies and exacerbated by a small difference in the reactance of the individual speakers?
