I'm still amazed that people will dig for Emotiva without checking first Anthem. Which really works and has real customer service.

As  a matter of fact...I forgot!  True anthem story:
I had Rolands top line power amp many moons ago.  380wpc/8 ohms.  Big claim.
There was at the time, a 200 wpc anthem amp (IIRC MCA 2020?)  that cost less, and kicked the snot out of the roland all across the performance map.  It had better dynamics, better bass grip and so on.
Anthem should get a look!

  • I reject your music, and substitute my own.
I'd love to see a hifi shop in a mall that sells entry level hifi gear like NAD and Rotel along side upscale gear like Bryston and McIntosh.  Lure them in with iPod accessories like the Wadia iTransport in the window, then let them hear what recorded music should sound right.  If the demo is done properly, sales will increase.  Others will begin carrying good gear to compete.  Or at least that's what my crazy imagination tells me.

I would give business to our Canadian friends instead of some outfit overseas, especially when it comes to integrity and reliability.  Go Anthem.

And go Bryston!

Bemopti123

I used to own Sonic Frontiers, I still have an Assemblage, I got a pair of Parts ConneXion modified amps, and finally I got a 19 year old Classe preamp.  Got to love our Canadian brothers.  Never had the pleasure of having Bryston, their sonics never impressed me much at any dealer.

It is true that  Emotiva products have been plagued by QC issues.  Not sure if they have them ironed out, but they are clearly having problems far beyond companies like Bryston, Anthem etc.

I've read posts about bugs in their software driven products like processors.  I've read a complaint here or there about their other stuff but overall people seemed extremely pleased with their products from what is posted.

The preamp seems to suffer the most slings and arrows.  I have seen 1 or 2 amps that shorted internally and failed, but it's mostly software bugs.

They seem to be a good value for the money.  I've looked and considered an amp for the bedroom system.  I currently have an old Adcom 555 driving the left and right channel which has a shallow chassis so it barely fits behind the center channel which is underneath the TV mounted to the wall.  I don't use the bedroom system tons and could reconfigure where I have things.  It is just the current arrangement works nicely.  I look all the time and I may yet end up with a used 3BST without handles.  The Emotive amps look very nice cosmetically.  I've never heard one.  I'd be curious to listen.

I am considering a 300 wpc emotiva for one of my systems.  The other option may be a pair of 200wpc monoblocks from Outlaw.

I've read (don't know if it is true but they look like a discontinued Emotiva model) that this is actually made by Emotiva - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-812

For 8 ohm speakers bridged in mono might not be a bad option either.

Outlaw from memory has had stellar reputation...but then, a reputation can be tainted by one disappointed and yet vocal customer whose complaints can get amplified by 100x in the net.

Much like the iphone 4 issue.  people want free stuff, or they have buyers remorse.  The first thing they do is complain.  And honestly, I have just downloaded the newest release (today)  of IOS 4.  I have had zero issues.  I think the press latched  onto this, and granted there probably are legit problems, but they make it sound like all 2 million owners are having issues...not the case.  I do have an outlaw RR 2150 in my system, so far it is precisely like the sterophile review and seems bulletproof.

I've heard nothing but nice things about Outlaw.  I've looked at their site a few times.

Like just about anyone, they are not immune to bugs...being in the computer biz for 40yrs, bugs and I got along quite well, made a nice liiving off them, but I digress.
If I remeber correctly their first prepro had  noise issues that took  quite a few iterations to resolve.  Noise in any form is one of my pet peeves so it kept me from committing to one at the time.

I noticed on their website they sell Marantz now.  I guess it is probably hard for a small company to design and have something built to their specifications and maintain it and work out bugs with limited staff.
