HELP! reusing the drivers from an AV123 X-CS Encore
« on: 18 Jul 2010, 04:57 am »
Are there any GR Research Monitors that I can make from the drivers from the X-CS Encore?  I know I will have to buy another tweeter or maybe even a set of different tweeters.

FYI, I am not cable of making a cabinet.

Those enclosures won't work without a major project to rework the network.

Find some X SLS, they can be converted to a Neo2X with a little work.

Other options are any of the Neo 1 2 or 3 in Parts Express Boxes. They look nice and are very affordable.

You can find people that will router the front pannel of the PE boxes.

Good Luck

I think Danny still has some of the classic-encore tweeters (should be the same tweeter you've got).  Put that together with your woofers, some skiing ninja networks, and maybe some parts express cabinets, and you could DIY a pair of ninja'ed XLS encores?

Otherwise, you would probably have to check with Danny, but if the woofers are the same as used in the Neo2x kits, new tweeters and networks could get you into a pair of those?

You could upgrade the crossover and take them up a notch.

Or you could build a set of X-Statiks out of them. I have all the crossover parts, cabinet plans and the extra woofers that you'll need.

Danny, how much $$$ would it cost to assemble a pair of  x-statiks?

Man I am really trying not to get tied up with too much assembly work right now. I just don't have time for it. I would see if you can talk Sean (Skiing Ninja) into doing it. He does a great job and does so at a really good price.

If he or someone else can't do it for some reason then you might be able to twist my arm into it, but I'll have to work on it when I can find some time between this or that.

I can certainly empathize with the desire to make use of the parts you have, but with the price of the GR kits I am not really sure if the end result would be better than just going with a new build.  :peek:

I think there might be an mis-communication?    What I was trying to say is how much do you charge for the drivers, crossover kit, and cabinet plans so that I could assemble it myself.  :)

Oh, okay. Let me figure that all up and get back with you.

Danny, do you have the specs for the Encore woofers? How do they compare to the M130's regarding sound quality?

All of the motor structure is the same. It is just a bigger diaphragm (6.5" version). They sound great. That's one of the reasons that they won so many awards.

Hey Danny , would a pair of 250's be suitable volume-wise for a conversion to a N2X ?
12" H  x 13" D  x  7 3/8" W(front baffle) .  9.5" wide at their widest point . And 6" wide at the rear . They're basically collecting dust and I already have a pair of M-165X's to use .
I am guessing that modifying the back cup on the Neo-3 is not do-able , and some router work would need to be done .
What say you ?
Yes ?
No ?
You're out of your freeking mind , and are in danger of a perma-ban.  :green:

One of the issues that I had with the old Rocket boxes was that the top panel had an overhang that disrupted the response.

To convert those boxes to an N2X you'd have to seal the port and build a new front panel.

Thanks Danny.
Probably not worth the effort  :( , considering the price of the PE boxes .
