CRAP....found my ipod in the washing machine
« on: 14 Jul 2010, 01:54 am »
Title says it all,  :duh:
I'm going to let it dry for two days and see what happens.

Bummer!
Put it in a plastic bag with a DampRid packet or some other dessicant dryer to absorb the moisture. Or put it over an air condition vent or some other very dry place. Let it dry out for a couple weeks before you turn it on.  Turning it on still wet is the kiss of death. Good luck.

Put it in a bowl filled with rice.  The rice will absorb the water and you can sometimes save an electrical item that way.  By the time you read this, it may be too late...

Thanks for all the ideas. My first step was to call my daughter, she has three teen-age boys. Aaron, 12, answered the phone. He said, "put it in a bowl of dry rice."
Later I talked to my wife, she's out of town. She told me she had run one of her ipods through the washer and it works fine now.
The ipod is sitting in a bowl of rice now. I'll plug it in in a few days.

I'd let it dry for at least a week.  My German neighbor dropped her camera in a tub of water and after a week sitting in a bowl of rice it powered up, but the exposure was way out with other problems.  Leica to the tra$h.

I heard this banging in the dryer. Bang, Bang, Bang. I thought it was a belt buckle and let it go a while. Finally I thought I better check it. It was my daughters I-Pod.

Now it did have a soft thin plastic jacket around it but it had gone through the wash and the dryer for a time.

We let it dry out a day and it powered up. The screen had water marks underneath but it worked. Pretty tough stuff.

Did it smell fresh and clean afterwards? KIDDING!

True dry as prescribed. Bring it to a center that does battery replacements and have them open it up for you. Take it home and blow dry it or leave under a warm lamp.

I've seen tube amps submerged by flooding come out good as new. There's a good chance your pod will too.

Good luck!! And don't eat the rice after you use it.
My wife sent her phone through the wash last year and I was able to get it working by removing the battery and blasting it with a hair dryer. It wasn't quite the same as before and it had water marks on the screen but it continued to serve until upgrade time rolled around.

I'm with you timind, I never did think they finished that quote.  I've always thought it should be, "Patience is a virtue best left to those who have time for it."
