Just curious... has anyone compared different versions (E.g.: the domestic CD vs. the Japanese import CD vs. ???) of this recording?

Thanks!

That is an excellent question, which I have taken the liberty of asking on the Steve Hoffman forum. I hope I have offended no one by doing so.

The Martin's (Giles, with a little help from his friend aka Dad, George) mixed this specifically for 5.1 multichannel (Cirque's Revolution Theatre) and the resultant DVD-Audio is remarkable!!  There is no comparison to the redbook layer.  I've done a 24/96 stereo downmix from the disc and like it slightly more than the included PCM layer, and the redbook always finishes a distant third......but to really experience this remix you must listen in 5.1.

I'm fortunate to have the DVD-A version and it is VERY good. I'm not sure if the DVD-A is still being manufactured though. DVD-A is was my favorite Hi-Res format. Too bad it was never very popular. :(

If you were worried about me, Konut - no offense taken at all!  I didn't even know there was a Steve Hoffman music forum.  Who says you can't teach an old audiophile new tricks!  ;-)

Thanks!

I saw the LOVE show in Vegas a few weeks ago.  They had lots of DVD-As in the gift shop.

The DVD-A multi-channel mix is a great musical trip, but it only hints at how amazing the actual show is.  Don't miss it!

Agreed.  The show is amazing.

Quick show story:  so was in Vegas for CES this past January and my nephew lives there. He got my bro-in-law and I tix for 9pm show.  As we enter there are signs saying "sorry, but tonight's show may have some seats closed due to film and photography equipment being set up" or something to that extent.  So, thinking nothing of it we enter to have a seat in our balcony (third section up) seats.  When escorted to that doorway, an usher (dressed in Cirque gear) is standing at the door and re-seating folks!  Sh&T!  It comes our turn to speak with him and he asks "do you two mind being down front?".  "No" we reply and he hands us two second row tickets.  The theater is in the round with stage entrances forming four spokes to a center square stage, so the front rows are wedge shaped, 2nd row having only 3 seats!  I am on the end toward the stage, with my right elbow literally leaning on the spoke stage floor!!!  The show at that perspective was quite unbelievable.  There is a portion where the kids in their bed rise into the air and huge sheets unfold to cover the whole staging area.  We are underneath the sheets (for all of 2 min maybe)!!  At the farewell, I get high fives (low 5's really, from their position) from like 5-6 performers as they come and go!!  Wild!!  (Note:  it may not be the best seats for seeing the whole performance cuz literally some of the high wire stuff was directly above our heads...I cared in the least  :)  )
