Quick impressions on an Insight 440H+ Upgrade
« on: 8 Jul 2010, 02:23 am »
First off--Frank and his team are first rate people.  Buying his products for the outstanding service alone is a smart idea.  Let alone the fact that the products are first rate as well...

My OmegaStar 440 (high current) was recently upgraded to the Insight+.  And I haven't had the time to really do any critical listening...but hope to later this week(end).

Initial Impressions?  Hubba Hubba.  A stark improvement, I'd say.  And it's tough for me to easily define.  I expected for added clarity (or veil removal)... And that was clearly evident.  But what I did NOT expect was that the veil seemed to be removed both in the foreground and in te background.  The foreground, I expected...  The background, I did not.  It's hard to describe, but it was like there was nothing (behind) the music.  So my first reaction was that of puzzlement, and to turn up the volume.  But I immediately realized that this (volume change) had nothing to do with it at all.  The music was just....clearer.  Cleaner.  More distinct, and with nothing in the background...

So now...I gotta upgrade the pre-amp!

Well done Frank!

Like Frank says, "You'll want to listen to your collection all over again."

It amazes me that each upgrade brought greater resolution, both low level as well as high level, in what I would describe as effortless. What I mean is that you will hear low level content in the recording without "straining to listen." Your description of "nothing behind the music" is probably part of that "effortless resolution."

I hear that low level detail also, there is more depth, width, attack and speed, I noticed the improvement in the Insight+EC upgrade.  I will upgrade to the Insight+ 440H in the next few weeks.  Not sure if I will opt for the double option.

Still burning in a set of Genalex KT77's in my U70, it gets better every time I use it.  Amazing music machine with LS3/5a's.  Still waiting for issue 204 of the TAS to show up.

Happy listening.

I opted to get the double dies when I did the + upgrade to my 440.

It's hard to say what changes the doubles bring but the amp will effortlessly play at any volume with uncompressed dynamics that is always crystal clear.
