« on: 1 Jul 2010, 02:59 pm »
Ok I have had this thing for a week with a ipod touch and everyday I have problems

Yesterday ipeng did not show up in itunes but was on the ipod could not get it to work had to reinstall on itunes

Today can not connect to radio, the youch does not show on the server it says
click the refresh button (where is that)

This has been very frustrating to use, it does sound good but I want to be able
to listen to internet radio and my library wirelessly EASILY

I can't speak to the touch but I know using any SB wirelessly seems to be problematic for some. I have my Duet wired via ethernet and it does fine. You might want to try that and see if problems persist. FWIW

i have to agree with eclein on this and go further by stating that i've never seen any wireless connection work 100% of the time. perhaps the area where everything is house is bad for reception or perhaps your wireless router is the culprit. good luck. wireless problems are a real headache, that's why i chose to wire my network.

I was thinking of getting the Duet, if I went wireless the 1st thing I would look into would be to assign a static ip address to it.

Can a static ip be assigned the Touch?

Gene-if your starting out fresh, go wired, it will save you so many headaches. Things always seem to disconnect when you need them most...like in the middle of a party or something you'd have to screw around with it. I personally try to limit my excursions from the recliner
to screw with settings, network connections etc..phew makes me tired just typing it. :thumb: :thumb:

The computer running Squeeze Box Server and at least in my home network, has the storage drives connected to it, has an assigned IP address.  The players may get a different addresses leased through DHCP, but not very often.
In the broadband router, there is usually a utility which allows you to associate a particular MAC address (the hardware specific address assigned at the factory)  w/ an assigned IP address.  Since DHCP, which assigns the addresses runs on the router, it will reassign the same IP address to a player over and over if you have it setup that way.
In Squeeze Box Server you can find the MAC address of the Logitech device.
I do agree that wired is less trouble and it also sounds better.  As I think about it, there will be a MAC address for the LAN card and a MAC for the WLAN as well.
I detailed a method in another thread to keep the WLAN  card from ever starting in the Touch.

I used my router admin to assign permanent IPs to the MAC addressess of the SB device and the  music server. Once I did this, stopped having networking problems. If you get a Duet, assign an address to both the controller and the receiver.

I have had a number of Sequeezebox products including the Touch and use wireless connectivity with no problems. I would suggest that you visit the Squeezebox Forums if you have not already done so as there is lots of good information there. ( www.http://forums.slimdevices.com/ ) A couple of suggestions. Be sure you are using Slimserver version 7.5.1 It's more stable and fixed a few bugs in the earlier version. Unplug your router, modem and Touch after you have upgraded Squeezeserver if needed. Leave unplugged for a minute then re-connect them all and re-set the Touch. You will have to go through the set up but that's the point. If you've updated the software it will say so along the way. Good luck.
