Fingerprint on mirror
« on: 1 Jul 2010, 03:30 am »
Looking through the viewfinder I see a a fingerprint.

I thought it was on the VFs glass, but the print remains after cleaning.

So I pulled off the lens and tried other lenses, but the fingerprint remains.

Therfore it must be on the mirror... and it bugs me.

Has anyone here ever successfully cleaned the mirror in their camera?

If it's on the mirror you should be able to see it (looking through the lens mount).

I don't have an answer to the question though - I thought I was going to see an interesting picture!

Nothing visible on the mirror.  Elsewhere I'm told that it most likely is the micro lens pattern embedded on the focus screen and it's supposed to be that way (helps with focusing).

If it's the focusing screen it will be a uniform pattern of concentric circles.  It's a fresnel lens which brightens up the image.  Although if it is a fingerprint with perfectly equal lines then it might be from a cyborg!

It's not that noticable, only under certain conditions, but just the thought of it is annoying.

I find the thought of cyborgs annoying too... yet.... strangely compelling...
