After almost 10 years of "someday", I have just bought a pair of new VMPS subs myself. I was going for the New Originals with the Megawoofer, but there were no cabinets for 2-3 weeks out. So what we came up with is the 'New Original Larger' subs - the 12" Megawoofer without the 15" woofer in the New Larger cabinets. Both Original and Larger cabinets have the 15" PR. So these will have more volume. I will drive them with a Crown K2. It will be some time before everything gets here also, so we will have to compare notes!
Its an option because Brian Cheney said it was! Maybe it will become a new option.I am looking forward to hearing everything I know I am missing. My Marble 9.0s go pretty low - enough for lots of music, but I want to hear all the harmonics, and some organ music, plus all the bass that I know is there, even if "injected" into the mix. Also everyone says you will free the mid woofers to do the mids so much better. I want to hear that!
I am going to listen like mad to my new setup which includes a special DCX2496! I have the mids and tweets setup, waiting for the subs!
Sounds cool! I like to read about projects/diy/mods more than some cost-is-no-object setup. There is a spot on my listening room floor reserved to the new larger sub. I also have the Minwax red chestnut stain waiting for the sub. It will be converted from light oak to a mahogany red/brown finish & a clearcoat.
Will you have to sand first before applying the minwax? I would think that the Light Oak had a clearcoat or at least a sealing finish.
I am anticipating that it has some kind of clearcoat finish. I am prepared to strip any finish (I have stripper from home depot), and prep sand, apply some pre-stain treatment, stain, clearcoat and sand between coats. I did that for 6 sets of speakers so far, the results are better-than-new finishes. Before and after pics will be posted. I will actually have that done before I have a complete opinion of the subs musical performance.
I would definitely like to see what you do and how much work it is.
Well here are a couple pairs speakers I redid...Here are some klipsch. They were badly faded and scratched from years of wear. And after: same procedure I explained.
They look like new!
