Acoustic Research AR-XA: Worth refurbishing?

What do you think of the AR-XA turntable? It has a Shure cartridge, yet is missing the tone arm counterweight. It may need a belt. The price is $70.00. I was told it does play.

Having owned 5 of these tables at one time or another, I will cut right to the chase. The motors on these tables are weak and even if you find one on ebay or other places, they have a hugh percentage of being of poor strength. Tonearm counter weights can be had, but the motor is a problem.

I will not recommend this table to anyone anymore beccause of the motor problem and there isn't a replacement. You can buy one from Hurst #3021-001, but it's high torque is going to send vibrations thru the plinth and the table will be too noisy.

My advice is to look else where.
