Illuminator 3-way

Here's a dual 7" 3-way design we recently finished for a customer and the picture he sent us. Dual 7" Scan-Speak Illuminator woofers, Seas Curv-Cone midbass, SB Acoustics 1" metal dome. Nice sound at a reasonable price.  :thumb:

Very nice! Guessing a Madisound cab?
Tell us honestly; was that designed planned with the woofers so far from the mid and so close to floor?

Yes, same company that makes cabinets for Dyn....o.

The internal bracing and grill are such that the woofers must be located at the bottom. We also modified the stock bracing to achieve the volume we needed for the midbass subenclosure and woofer section. The lower woofers don't pose a problem because the crossover point is designed for good integration with steep acoustic slopes.

I am the proud owner of these speakers.  They are great R&R speakers, very dynamic and can deliver an awesome mid-bass slam thanks to the dual Illuminators.  They replace some Dynaudio 140 bookshelves which simply could not deliver the mid-bass I was looking for. I have them paired with dual 12" woofers crossed over at 80hz.  The metal tweeter and mid-range are also very smooth.  I stream almost exclusively from Sonos (rarely listen to CD's anymore) and they sound fantastic.

What's the -3db point on these? IIRC the original TRTs were hitting like 35hz, these must go even lower.

Sealed box design with essentially the same bass extension as the Verita (mid 60's -3db point and -10db @45hz). Excellent tight, dynamic, and well-defined bass and easy to integrate with a subwoofer.
