They are pretty nice speakers that seem to do a lot of things well.  For a couple hundred, the going rate, they seem to sell.  I've been using TW 1 (Not the a) since new in 1980 and will be keeping them a while longer.  I have added other speakers but these are still keepers.

What do you mean by special?

Ed....

They will be different than your JBL's....sound stage opens to 180 degrees >> 2 6" woofers and 2 dome tweeters per speaker ...not as focused as your speakers. If their "cheap"....and in OK condition (their old)...check them out.

2 6" woofers and 2 dome tweeters per speaker

Althou they are a bit smaller, those Philips are considered 8" units.

I am neither encouraging or discouraging you to buy these - this is just my memories of them.

In the late 70's, the former (no longer around) Audio Associates hi-fi retailers in the D.C. area used to push these speakers to people who were interested in buying speakers. I always felt that they were doing it because they were high profit margin speakers.

I don't really remember my impressions of their sound quality.

I opted not to buy or pursue them...I'm just gonna enjoy my JBL's and get more music for awhile!!!

I agree 100% and would go further based on a friends "upgrade".

He had the DCM Time Windows and "upgraded" to the Dahlquist DQ-10's.

In my opinion he should have stuck with the DCM's.

Ahhhh, memories.

I had the 1s and then the bigger version, I think the 1As? in college, so that was like 25 years ago!

My bro was a dealer at Wall to Wall (remember that chain?) in a few malls so I'd buy his when he upgraded.  :thumb:

I only heard them once back in the early eighties, they made a very good impression.

Over the weekend I was in Athens, GA and while perusing one of the many Antique/Salvage/Junk stores thereof, I was indoctrinated into the the Time Window cult for the reasonable price of $100.  They are fully functioning and appear to be completely original.  The speaker cover "socks" are in pretty damn good shape considering the their age.

I have a pair of Time Windows Three powered by a Carver 1.5T in my spare bedroom/man cave. They're dynamic, musical and resolving enough for my tastes.

I had 1A's on stands back when, they were very nice. I powered them with a Kenwood KA 9300 integrated and a KT 8300 tuner combination. I think at that time I had a Sansui 838 table too.
That was a nice system. Wish I had it around now for a second system.

Time Windows were the first time I actually experienced an "image". Usually systems in the 70's and 80's were just about sounding live. Not about those audiophile terms we all throw around now. They sure were special back then.

Still have my time windows from the 80's.  Had new drivers and crossovers install in the 90's after my brother in law fried them.  DCM was still in Ann Anbor, MI. at that time.  Took out my Vortex screens  a few months ago,  and put the time windows back in and they still sound  great.  Will use them for 6 &7 channel for my home theather when I finish it in a few months.

Good to know.  I'd be curious to hear them and see how they compare to my memory.  Also glad to see they're still very reasonably priced.  $1,000/pr for their top model.

Last year I found a pair of DCM Timeframe TF 500 Speakers at a Charity Flea Market - $100. Apparently these speakers were built between 1985-1990. They are channel specific (R/L). I replaced the binding posts. Otherwise, these speakers are a whole lotta fun. They image well, have a huge soundstage and real good "boogie factor." Super enjoyable and very easy to drive. For the $$ these are a no brainer!
