NEW GIK QRD Diffuser
« on: 18 Jun 2010, 02:57 pm »
GIK is proud to introduce a new line of diffusion products.  These are the basic 7 root QRD's with stained wood frames. Color options for the interior is off white, brown, and black.  Stain colors are the same as our Elite products - Cherry, Walnut, and Blonde.  Custom colors and stains can be accommodated.

These 2 pictures are of our initial production prototypes.  Price TBD but under $200 each.  Dimensions are 19"x46"x5.5"

We will also be offering a couple of other products in our line shortly.  The first is this same diffuser but with effectively, one of our Monster panels behind it to do double duty in bass control and diffusion. The QRD material will reflect from approx 500Hz up but allow bass to pass through to be absorbed.  This will be a perfect product for rear wall applications.

The other product will be an unframed version of the standard QRD but made to fit in drop ceiling grids.  The color options will be the same.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Okay brother:

What is the material of the diffusor itself - molded like the original?

I have been thinking about re-engineerng (remove all but corner traps and start over in placement and quantity) my acoustics in my room.  Do you see a logical place to put these such as first reflections, ceiling, rear wall?

Wow. I'm seriously interested especially in the ones with QRD + Monster Bass Trap behind it. If you can price it way under $599 each that would nice, compared to your competitor! I'll take 6 of them for the new theater room we are building. Perfect for the rear of the room and back wall.

Hi Pete

In your setup, they'd be best on the ceiling reflections for the ones with no absorption behind them.  For the bigger ones with the Monster in the rear, I'd use 2 instead of the 6" 703.

We're still finalizing the other ones Anand but it will be soon. Guarantee you they'll be WAY under $599 each.  Drop me a PM if you want and I'll talk to Glenn to get a better handle on the expected timeframe and pricing.

Good luck with that 31 root.  What are you targeting for the design frequency?

Picture with the employee of the month.  :D

We still have a few more things to settle on with the product, but it is looking like we will start with Blond frames with any 3 colors of the QRD (off-white, black or brown). If you want maple brown, or red color stained frames there would be a small up charge.
I am hoping in the next day or so to have the pricing and start to take pre-orders (yes there would be a discount  :D)

These look really cool.  I think they would be perfect for my rear wall application.

How heavy will they be?  When will you have posted data tests on them?

I don't have the exact weight but the QRD is around 15 pounds and the QRD/Monster bass trap will be round 40 pounds.
As far as testing, I don't see the need as the QRD is done by math that is widely used/proven in the industry and the bass trapping will match up to the Monster numbers we have now.

Best used on the entire back wall or would one work?

I am hoping (please don't hold this to me) by the end of the week (crossing fingers and all toes).

Just like anything else, more is better, but starting with 1 or 2 would help.

This will be the standard blonde framing. You can pick Off white (pictured above)Black or Brown for the insides.
Pricing

GIK QRD
Blonde Framing (pick of the 3 inside colors)
$129.00 (don't kill me if that price goes up lol lol)

$20.00 up-charge for brown or red stain.

GIK Monster QRD
Blonde Framing (pick of 3 inside colors)
$249.00

$20 up-charge on brown or red stain

The QRD or the Monster QRD are the same but minus the bass trapping with the GIK Monster QRD. Here is a little copy to answer some questions people had.

Quote
Talk to any acoustics or audio pro and they will tell you that diffusion is the final piece that can turn a good sounding room into a great one if used properly, giving a sense of spaciousness to your music (or recording room) by breaking up that zingy, slap echo in a room without deadening it too much.

The problem in many rooms is that the rear wall where diffusion is normally used is also an excellent place for bass traps to help with square rooms, cancellations from the rear wall, etc.

Finally, a reasonably priced acoustic panel solution that can do both! GIK is proud to introduce the GIK Monster Diffuser. A step up from a standard QRD design, The Monster Diffuser has a usable diffusion range of approximately 500Hz to over 3 kHz and does not act like a flat surface until about 7 kHz.  On the bottom, it is an excellent bass absorber from where the diffusion stops down well into the subwoofer range.

The diffusion material is designed specifically to reflect mid and high frequencies for proper diffusion while allowing the bass to pass through it to the absorption material behind it.  The absorption is equivalent to our Monster Bass Trap panel.  The result is a true broadband bass trap solution to provide you with much needed bottom end control while providing the spaciousness of a QRD diffuser.

Features:
- 7 root QRD diffuser design
- 3 color choices for diffusion panel (other colors optional for a small upcharge)
- Excellent diffusion and bass trapping characteristics
- Designed to allow hanging in mirror imaged pairs to avoid lobing and comb filtering from repeating diffuser sequences
- Stained wood frame for a professional, finished look.  (Blonde is the standard stain, other stains available for a small upcharge)
- Quality construction that will work on walls or ceiling and last a lifetime.

I may start pre-orders by Monday or so. Will keep you all updated and like always, thanks for all the kind words. We are getting pretty excited about this new one.

Glenn,

I have been exploring various options.  One I looked at is the RPG Variscreen.  Is something similar possible to do with these?  I also liked that there is a caster option for the Variscreen.  I take it this GIK QRD Diffuser will take Wood Stands?  Any caster option available.

Thanks,
Will

At this point we are really only taking gold coins, but I can also take plastic ones in your case.   :D :D
