Hi Bryston,

This is  a quick note to let you know I received the upgraded preamp on Friday, put it back into the system that night, and am very happy with the results!  The sound is better than my recollection of the pre-upgrade BP-25, and better than the temporary preamp I was using in its absence (which I felt was about on-par with the pre-upgrade BP-25). 

I have no way of quantifying how much of the improvement is due to the MPS-2 power supply and how much is due to the upgrade to BP-26 specs, but the combined result is a significant jump in quality.  The highs in particular, seem cleaner and to have lost any lingering harshness, but I feel like the whole sonic picture has become cleaner and truer but without taking on a colder feel (if anything, the sound may be a tiny bit warmer now).  In any event, the upgrade is an unqualified success -- thanks again for all of your help in making it happen.

In addition to the sound quality, I suspect you treated me to some mechanical upgrades -- the source switch feels like different now, and the remote is working much more reliably.  Whatever you did, thanks again -- it really does seem better across the board now.

Did you guys in fact upgrade his unit to a BP-26?

The mps2 is a great upgrade for the bp25. But another  path one can take or consider is getting a Torus power conditioner.  I believe that a great many upgrades we see today (caps, transformers,etc) are there to bandaid the meager power from the wall.

When i had my bp25 i found the Torus really jumped the performance signifcantly. There were still differences but the dryness in the bp25 was almost gone. It really became a taste test between the bp26 and bp25. I still prefered the bp26 but only marginally.

Hello all.  I am the author of the note posted by James, and in response to vegasdave's question, my roughly twelve-year old BP-25 was in fact upgraded to a BP-26.  I purchased the MPS-2 at the same time, so I was never able to use it with the non-upgraded BP-25, which is why I said I could not quantify how much of the improvement was due to the new power supply versus how much was due to the upgrade to BP-26 specs.  The bottom line for me is that my preamp -- and as a result my entire system -- is now sounding better than ever.  Bryston also deserve kudos for sorting out some inconvenient logistics due to the fact that I now live in Tokyo.  Thanks again, James and Brian!

P.S.  Sorry for the "like different" typo in my original note...it should just say "different," or "like a new switch."

Cool. Sounds like you're very satisfied all the way around. I wish I could have bought a BP26, but I could only afford a BP6.
