How much $$ do you have in audio?

I thought it might be interesting to hear how much $$ you guys have invested in our hobby. You don't have to give a dollar amount. I suspect some will just say "way too much" and others "every penny I can scrounge." As for me, I confess that I'm a cheapskate, less than $1,000. But, I realize this is not the norm around here.

Some will need to come clean. It's OK, you can admit that you're out of control and need help. Whatever you say here, stays here.

Like everything else in this forum, it's all in good fun!

Basic investment is the beginning. But with years things come and go. Actually more comes than goes.

Now if you consider value as compared to your cost it could go either way.

Way more than is prudent, but I don't golf, gamble or ride a Harley or a Jet Ski.
And I don't own an Alfa anymore (huge black hole for $$, but I loved the car!).

So it's all relative!

As I no more married I can confess Iam the ''every penny'' and ''out of control'' guy and need a new job for more income.

Started out thinking I was spending major bucks on an amp and preamp combo for about $1200. I soon realized this was peanuts. I've probably laid out 10X that over the years on the current system, but retail value would be twice that. I can honestly say that i have spent a lot of money on checking out tweaks and "playing". THAT has been the best part about learning about this hobby. That and having the gaul/audacity/balls to pick up a soldering iron and learn about schematics and parts selection.

The fun these days is not about swapping out components, but in learning how they work and possibly improving on them. Yeah, the engineers side of things but with a decidedly open mind about things that are more audiophile and less textbook. In any case, it has opened a whole 'nother world about this hobby that has made it far more enjoyable than before.

Enough to buy a entry level new car. Eight years ago my wife and I took early retirement which I heartily recommend . Anyway I knew our income would be limited so for a few years prior I built my dream system. Their have been a few changes but the core remains. I consider it the best entertainment money I ever spent.

More than I can say. The guilt is too great.

Start with 6,000 (good) LPs.... (I have tossed out another (junk) 8,000) you get the idea.
I have a nice stereo. My friends think I am certifiable insane.
