shipping damage
« on: 8 Jun 2010, 04:46 pm »
My stratus arrived with shipping damage.  I called Klaus and he was very helpful, though I eventually had to ship it back to Odyssey for repairs.  Klaus and Mike were absolutely wonderful to deal with and repaired my amp, obviously shipping damage happens occasionally.  Bottom line, I absolutely love my new amp (LOVE) and my faith in humanity gets restored when I deal with business people like Klaus. Thanks,  Ross from Esko

Good to hear you are pleased again.    Please, inform us what was the freight/shipping company that damaged your amp??  If you can told us.
Happy listenings,  Gustavo

When it happened to me four years ago, it was UPS (aka. OOPS) who damaged my amp, and I have to say that Klaus turned their fiasco into little more than a minor inconvenience for me, restoring my amp and shipping it back in a timely fashion. Can't ask for more than that, although I wish Klaus would double-box those amps at least for a little more protection. The Odyssey amp itself was built like a frigging tank--UPS must have dropped it from a great height at the handling facility to damage it.

Gustavo, every shipping company is guilty of damage every now and then. That's why you buy insurance on shipped goods. What good does it do to name names? Why do people feel the need to bash a company or another person? :nono:

I don't think simply asking for shipping info is in of itself considered bashing decal, curiosity is natural.  :nono:  Odyssey has always used UPS for me and I agree with Larkston Zinaspic, double boxing is always good and would have also been preferred by yours truely.  :thumb:

If single boxed, was there 2" - 3" of foam on all sides?

In no way did I mean to imply that I felt Odyssey was in anyway at fault for the shipping damage.  The packaging was good.  Stuff happens sometimes.  My sole purpose for the post was to tell of the absolutely excellent service and treatment I received from Klaus and Odyssey and my total satisfaction in their great amp.  Ross from Esko

Asking the question is not bashing, what usually comes after the answer is where the bashing begins!!

I should add that my intention wasn't to start a bashing contest here, or contribute to one...but I said what I said because I was mighty pissed when my amp arrived damaged, which I think is a perfectly normal reaction for anyone. No it wasn't the last time something like that happened, and UPS wasn't the only courier to damage my merchandise, but quite frankly I'm a little nervous now whenever I'm awaiting a shipment, no matter what it is.

I wasn't trying to imply that Klaus was at fault either--he does great by his customers and I've already explained that--but I felt pretty bad that he had to go through the time and expense just to set things right with me, when obviously he had other business to attend to.

Accidents do happen, but there are always some precautions one can take. As far as buying insurance goes, a clerk at Kinkos recently told me that FedEx does not offer insurance, only a 'declared value', and that they won't cover anything over $1,000. Perhaps I received misinformation there, but at any rate, filing a damage claim doesn't guarantee reimbursement, from the complaints I've seen elsewhere.

Nothing personal against this company, I wish know the company name for not use this company services in the future, any audiophile shopping new gear will want stay away from this company for sure.
A precision amp as Odyssey have a long road 20 years warranty, and need the most care in transit to a owner. Odyssey take most care in the making of this amps for a great musical performance and the owner also will use it with care, so came a freight company and broke it.
I already read various reports from UPS damaged equips in transport in this site, looks the problem is old and will persit for sooome years.
Regards, Gustavo

There aren't that many shipping companies but they all have problems occasionally.  So, avoiding one doesn't mean your guaranteed no problems.  This thread was just my experience.  it was meant to convey only that, not become a hunt for problems with anybody.  It was basically a story with a happy ending.  Nuff said ?
