Storing vinyl, vertical vs horizontal..........
« on: 5 Jun 2010, 07:13 pm »

I can see how vertical storage with a slight angle (which seems to be normal) could warp a LP :(

But I can't see how horizontal storage on a flat surface should cause warping......just the opposite, it seems like a good way to remove warpage :o

Would someone please 'straighten' me out? Chuck

Vertical. Besides, horizontally storing them make's them difficult to remove for listening!

Vertical has been THE only way to store LPs since the stone age. I do not know why, but it may be due to 78' era discs. 78s were extremely brittle, and could NEVER be stacked because the weight of them on top of each other would always break the bottom ones, always.
So, as a historical need, it became a 'this is the way it's done' and passed into history as the only way to store LPs.
Aside from ease of removal, no reason for NOT using vertical storage I know of.

+1!

if you stack them horizontally, and your shelf bends, you are screwed.
