What a great sounding album, thanks for sharing Ted. I think that's a really cool thing that HDTT did. It definitely makes me want to buy more from this company.

I have downloaded these and have tried to convert them to ALAC via Max.  I get an error message that these files "do not have an embedded que sheet," so I can't load them for conversion.  Any idea what would cause that error?  Any idea if there is a separate cue sheet to be loaded with these files?

Bob Witrak, founder of high Def Tape Transfers (HDTT) the innovative online hirez download site that masters all their classical music from the vaults of master tapes today announced a major collection that is now FREE and 24/95 (derived from his enw 24/192's).  What's more, it's on my top ten HiRez classical selections.  YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT FREE!  Why??  Well, in light of the issues that were raised regarding possible "faux" and/or mislabeled hirez downlaods from HDtracks and others (growing pains in this new Hirez download industry) Bob thought he'd get ahead of the curve and offer a new 24/192 "redo" of a master he did in 24/96 that had some spikes originally (sounded good to me), and he wanted to make it good for everyone, not only those that ordered initially.  Here is his newsletter copy:

In light of a recent controversy on a popular high end audio forum where a well known high resolution download company was offering 24/96 resolution titles and they were found to be up sampled low resolution copies we somehow were mentioned in this controversy because a customer found a abnormality in one of our 24/96 titles this title is the Stravinsky-L'histoire Du Soldat Conducted by Robert Mandell - Ars Nova

We were accused of selling an up sampled copy but this was proved untrue (this could not happen because we do all of our mastering in house)  there was some high frequency spikes that were caused by either the tape, the tape heads, or in the analog to digital conversion, all that aside this has been one of our best reviewed and best received titles from audio professionals and customers especially for it's sonics.

We have recently re-mastered the title in 24/192 resolution and we are offering a free download of the Stravinsky-L'histoire Du Soldat these new files were derived from the new remastering.

Again, I want to emphasize that this Historic Du Soldat is one of my faves, so get out there and download it.  (Note:  the 24/96 files are pretty large so hopefully you have a good DSL speed or cable modem).  If not, schedule for overnight.)  The accompanying Respighi on the same disc is worth buying, btw.

Cue sheets are only needed for album-sized files (the cue sheet is the identically named file to tell where the tracks begins, ends, etc...like Abbeyroad.wav and Abbeyroad.cue) not individual song files.  They are irrelevant.  You have something set wrong.  Although I use DBPoweramp to convert, I've used MAX on AMC.  FLAC to ALAC works.  Or convert to AIFF and let iTunes convert to ALAC?

UPDATE on the message below: I found (and switched to) X Lossless Decoder (XLD) for the conversion.  Problem solved.  It's free, it's not as quirky, and it's esasy to use.  No reason to go back to MAX any more.

P.S. The Stravinsky tracks sound WONDERFUL.  I am only listening on my MacBook right now, but I can tell already that these will sound great when I put my MacBook back in my main rig and play it through my stereo.  Thanks for the heads-up on this music.

As you may know, MAX is a pretty quirky program....

Your explanation makes sense to me.  Problem is, MAX is looking for the cue sheet for these files when I load the file for conversion.  I can't get to the conversion step.  I'm wondering if it's something in the files themselves that is telling MAX to look for a cue sheet, even though it wouldn't ordinarily.  I've looked through MAX for a setting that would seem applicable but I can't find one.  I think that I may just need to find a different audio converter for a Mac in order to make this happen.

There are clearly nine tracks (nine links above numbered 1-9) and each is labeled with FLAC metadata.  The collection make up the whole Historie Du Soldat composition, and are simply broken into nine sections, called tracks.  i changed them to "parts" when I brought them over to my music server.

Sorry, I spaced.  I should typed 9 tracks.  You're correct, and I can get the names from another Stravinsky recording on Amazon.

I would blame it on the drugs/booze, but I am sober (today).

My SB3 isnt playing the files, i thought it automatically downsized and still played them. Guess i am wrong

Are you sure that the files are loaded into the correct folder and/or drive so that the SB3 sees them?
