I am a long time budget audiophile, & have done a fair amount of equipment hook-up, but my current plans have me a little baffled on best “combo” route to go …
Current set-up:
Oppo BDP-83SE Blu-ray
Denon avr-1909 7.1 ch AVR (90 wpc x 7)
6.1 speaker set-up:
Av123 ELT525 towers & center w/ No-rez & Skiing Ninja master network upgrades
Rythmik F12G servo sub
Paradigm Cinema 110 surrounds & surround back
I have no problems w/ this set-up HDMI movie or tv-wise (or multi-channel analog from Oppo), except the Oppo BDP-83SE has very good 2 ch DAC’s to take advantage of. Coupled w/ recent speaker upgrades, I want to improve amplification for 2 channel analog listening vs. my current 2 ch set-up w/ exisiting modest AVR.
I’m interested in the Class D 120 wpc @ 8 ohms by Class D Audio or particularly the Virtue One. 2 w/ battery power supply. No problems w/ running 2 ch out from the Oppo to the subject amp. I would hook-up the ELT525 tower front mains to the subject 2 ch amp & run full range. Obviously hooking up the Sub into the mix would be nice too, but …
Due to limited real estate & WAF, I would like to keep everything semi-intact for Home Theater AND 2ch or 2ch + sub CD-audio listening.
I assume hooking-up 2 sets speaker cables from both amps to front mains is a definite no-no?
I guess I’m looking regularly switching banana plugs to front left & right speakers depending on which amp I am using....
The Denon AVR has a Zone 2 pre-main amplifier option I could utilize, but fronts would be full range for HT & may have some lip synch issue when running combined. Also, I guess I would have to operate both amps to get 6.1 config.
Any “mad scientist” thoughts besides a separate stand alone 2 channel system?
