For the Jazz lovers among us (Brystonites), let us share our favorite jazz pieces.  Here is my short list:

Oscar Peterson & Count Basie --“Satch and Josh”
Barbara Morrison   --  “Live at the Dakota”
Ray Brown  -- "Soular Energy"

Lester Bowie - "Rios Negroes" from the album The Great Pretender.
A great recording and a compelling performance.

Pat Metheny - "Turnaround" from 80/81

Nice! Finally a jazz list. I'm been thinking about picking up a good jazz album. Unfortunately, I'm not very hip on the jazz scene so I don't know many artists'. Any of these albums have cellos and pianos perhaps?

This is HUGE and I love'm all...

But if you abruptly wake me up at 3AM and ask me about jazz I would probably be able to recite Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone in some random order.....

Ron Carter's Piccolo is titled by his use of the piccolo bass throughout the record.  He uses the bow on it extensively.  Maybe not a cello in the truest sense but what is a cello but a mini bass anyway (I guess some would say a huge viola).  Give it a try.  I think you'll especially like the track entitled "Sunshower".  It features lots of piano and bowed piccolo bass.  I have the recording in vinyl circa 1978.  I don't know if or in what media it may still be available.  Happy listening :thumb:.

+1 for this, also
+1 for Miles' 'Kind of Blue'

Then grab;

'A Love Supreme' - Coltrane <may be mentioned already>
'Something Else' - C. Adderley

and 'Ellington at Newport' wouldn't hurt either.

Not sure about cellos, but Bill Evans is a wiz at piano.

Excellent new release from Keith Jarrett/Charlie Haden.  Top notch piano/bass combo.
