For Memorial Day- Saving Private Ryan
« on: 31 May 2010, 09:58 pm »
In keeping with the spirit of the day I decided to watch Saving Private Ryan again today.  It had been years since I'd seen it, and when it was released on DVD the Omaha Beach scene became a torture test/reference peice for me to evaluate subs, etc.  The movie is so intense that you don't exactly "enjoy" watching it, you endure it.  But seeing it again I was impressed by how well it holds up over time and just how complete and compelling the film actually is.  Plus it's a good reminder as to what Memorial Day is as actually honoring.  Two thumbs up for a modern classic. :thumb: :thumb:

+1, many times over.

Visiting Normandy is on my bucket list; had a father-in-law who came ashore there around D+3, fought into Germany under Patton. :thumb:
