Two subs or not two subs? That is the question.
« on: 31 May 2010, 03:26 am »
Hello all,

I have the chance to pick up another Paradigm Ultracube 10" subwoofer for $500, half the price of what I payed for my first one. I already have one in my system now. My question is, is there a significant benefit to having two subwoofers?

Thanks,
Ryan

Two subs are better than one, but there are better subs than that for $500 I'd guess.  Mixing and matching subs is not a problem if you do it correctly (use the subs within their optimum ranges) and locate the subs apart from each other to get better in-room response.

You could audition another one to see what you think or hear.
I use to use one and then I tried two,I'd never go back to one.
I find with one if you even move a foot out of your sweetspot, the bottomend will change quite a bit.
Two subs will even out the bottom, she sounds so much more complete, just a nice foundation for the rest of the MUSIC.I think you will be quite surprised,I was :thumb:.

Yeah. I have a small living room, so unfortunately my placement options are less then ideal. I think two might even it out a bit. I know the Ultracubes aren't the best subs around but they're compact and fit my needs perfectly. I just wasn't sure if there would be an issue with having two subs.

You should place one sub next to your mains and the other sub on your side wall middle point in the room

Great suggestion for starting locations of two subs. This is how my configuration ended up and it works for me.  :thumb:

YES!
What worked the best for me was stacking them secured together by double-back tape.
