Music for the occasion
« on: 29 May 2010, 02:37 am »
Anyone else have a song they actually enjoy, etc., that fits a certain occasion?

Here's one that I think of on this Memorial Day weekend.

Vera & Bring the Boys Back Home

Peace,

Paul

On a side note, it's weird to think I know I will still be listening to The Beatles (amongst others) when some of the recordings are ~100/100+ years old.

Yeah for recorded media! (Oh, and yeah for being younger than most of you ACers! :rotflmao:)

You're on fire! :hyper:

I may be stretching a bit, as this one does not fit a generic theme, but is more personal, as it reminds me of St. Louis. . .and all my great friends that are there.  My heart belongs to STL!  (Tweedy is from the STL area and refers to The Landing, which is the Arch area in STL).

Heavy Metal Drummer (not a real Wilco video, but has the song from the albume.  It has the best sound I could find from a quick search)

Sincerely,

Mr. Miss The Innocence I've Known

This one isn't subtle. . .and is a bit of a mood killer.  David Gilmour - Murder.

He wrote it about John Lennon's death.  I was only encroaching on 3 years on this planet when John Lennon was killed.  So for me, it always gives me a "What if?" feeling.  I used the quote, "Did you get rid of all the voices in your head?  Do you now miss them and the things that they said." as my signature for years here. OH, what if!?!?  So sad.

Murder

Had never heard that song before. . .and to be honest, the artist, too.  I like it!  It does have a bit of an '80s sound. . .and to my ears, it actually sounds a bit Gilmour-ish.  Call me crazy.

Dec. 8th....1980.
That night....had just finished jamming with a group (The Dialamatics) in Manhattan (West 38th. street)...got to the car...heard the news on the radio. The drummer and myself drove up to the Dakota....many people were there....a sad night. :(

I bet.

Up until about 8th grade, I remember radio stations playing Lennon marathons on and around the anniversary of his death.  Really don't hear that much anymore, but I also don't listen to the radio too much.  Such a loss.

Paul

P.S.  I just ordered that CD from Amazon.  Looking forward to checking it out.  Thanks!
