My Ultimate Speaker List!!! UPDATED
« on: 27 May 2010, 06:35 pm »
My previous topic went to quarantine, even though it did not break any AC rules. So I'm reposting this list again. No, I'm not a Goldmund dealer, however they make some of my favorite electronics. It seems like only a handful of speaker manufacturers are discussed here on AC everyday and not many people have heard speakers on this list. Hopefully for those interested, you can a find to audition some and find new favorites. The following are what I personally believe to be the very best speakers ever made:

Goldmund Prologue
Goldmund Dialogue
Goldmund Super Dialogue
Goldmund Analogue
Goldmund Apologue
Goldmund Apologue (Gold Cube Active)
Goldmund Trilogue

Folks, no need to make negative comments to a Member's post just because you do not get along with said Member.  There is an "ignore" option for PMs and entire Circles.  I suggest you use it.  Stop with the annoying posts.

I see nothing inherently wrong with this post.  If you don't like it, there is no need to criticize the OP for making such a post.

Inherent in the AC rules are that we are supposed to act like adults.  That goes for everyone.

Thank you,

Paul

The only ones I've seen or heard from the list are these - http://ployer.com/archives/2008/05/13/Goldmund%20Epilogue%20Speaker%20System-thumb-520x657.jpg

To each their own.  I wasn't particularly impressed at $40k or whatever they were.  The were nice don't get me wrong, beautiful craftsmanship, but they didn't blow me away.

There are many very expensive speakers that I don't like.  In the higher priced I like the Kaiser & MBL.

Phil A - Those are the most incredible speakers on the planet.

jtwrace - I use the Goldmund Logos1 passive speakers as my reference, here's a picture:

chlorofille - Well most are Swiss. But all are European. Expolinear, Micro Precision, Symphonic Line are all from Germany. Aperturas are from France.

I thought the Goldmans were OK when I heard them at the last Stereophile show in NY.  They did not make my top of heap list.

My favs: A v short list

MBL 101E
Wilson Maxx
Nola Grand Reference
Martin Logan Statement
Scaena 3.2

All of these can replicate the sound of real instruments in real space.  I've listened to a lot of big expensive spkrs, but only these made me feel like "being there."

I've not heard any small or medium sized spkr (including the Magico Minis- M5s) that can produce scale, dynamics or authority the way these spkrs do, while remaining relatively uncolored and true to the source.

Cheers,
Drew.

Nagy, have you really had opportunity to listen to all these speakers? How? Did you work for them or work at some super euro audio store? I take it you do now or have previously lived in Europe?

I have heard some Ensemble gear and it was very well made and sounded very nice.

Really???? - They were the cause of the dealer dropping the Goldmund line.  No interest from any customers at their price point.  He wasn't too happy with the interest in the amps (and I like the amp he had on the floor) but at least sold a few of those.  After that they tried begging from what I understand to be taken back a few times.  They are at a price point that they need have some interest to support taking up floor space.

I've heard so few speakers, there's no way I could make a list.  Without the Internet (mainly this site), I would probably think some Infinity speakers and a Sony receiver, both from Best Buy, were the bomb-diggity.

So, my ultimate speaker list only consists of my 6 year old GR Research Paradox 1s (which will be upgraded fairly soon. . .).

Listened to over 30 sets prior to purchasing what I currently have (KEF 205/2's), but they are not the best I've heard (up to over 40 with my travels):

Can't afford:
Magico M5 - Amazing Wow!
Avalon Time - Amazing Wow!
Dynaudio Evidence Master
Dynaudio Evidence Temptation

Somewhat affordable:
KEF Reference 207/2 - Amazing Wow!
Hansen Prince V2 - Amazing Wow!
Revel Salon 2 - Amazing Wow!
Avalon Indra - Wow!
Revel Studio 2 - Wow!
Salk HT-3
Monitor Audio PL-300
Dynaudio Confidence C4
Dynaudio Sapphire
Dynaudio Contour S5.4

Favorite Cheap Speaker:
Monitor Audio RS-6

Still have a lot to hear (Rockport, YG Acoustics, Zu, Scaena, Salk Soundscape, Eggleston Works Andra II/III, etc.)

Right now I'd buy the Avalon Time or KEF Reference 207/2's if I could swing it.

Rockport Technologies Altair

My first love !!
This was the first high end speaker that I heard in Singapore and got me interested in DIY speakers.
It also made me dispose of my old Bose.
