Conversion to component from digital
« on: 25 May 2010, 01:04 am »
Hey all

I was starting a build on a HTPC based on a i3 and a Gigabyte H55M-UD2h motherboard combo that I picked up at Frys.  The motherboard has digtial only outputs, DVI, Displayport and HDMI uding the graphics in the h55 chipset.  My monitor is an '06 vintage Panny plasma with an array of analog inputs, composite, component and S-video.  the challenge I see in driving the display.  I have found products like HDfury which seems to convert from digital to analog, but come at a price of around $300.  From what I have read, some DVI (older ATI cards) have a simple adapter which works, but that seems to be dependent on the ATI chip set which must have support for both analog and digital domain.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

It's probably not the recommendation you're looking for, but I saw a 50" Sony plamsa at Walmart last week.
I'd go that route before I did a $300 adapter.

Good luck either way. Sounds like a cool project.
