ps.  oneobgyn, one of the top NYC dealers told a buddy that the Nagra is the cat's meow the other day.  He is awaiting my review to purchase one (btw, that dealer doesn't sell nagra)

Did i mention Wendy sold her Ref II due to noise?

That said the C4s are too big for a typical condo, so the C2s would most likely be the better choice.

Cooool!

But it looks like the footprint on both the C2 and C4 is about the same.

I should have a pair of the new "Brian Cheney Signature RM40s" in about 45 days.  If you get the C2s that would be a fun comparison, except it would be in two different rooms and systems.

Aren't the C2s about 12 Large list?  That is some heady territory!

JM Labs Mezzo Utopias, and even the RM/x are in the 12K slot.

That would be pretty cool.  Maybe the new JRs or some Ampzilla 2000s for ampland.

They are, but can be had used for around $6K. The Mezzo Utopias can be had for around the same price (originally ~$14K), but I do not think they are as easy to obtain (and the new model, the Alto Utopia Be, is $17K). Also, unfortunately, the RM/x will probably not be able to had at such a price, used, for quite a while. So while all in similar MSRP brackets, and therefore good for comparisons in that regard, can not necessarily be had at the same price (if you do not mind used).

Yeah, i don't understand either.  She even sent it back to ARC, and it was returned and still thought it was noisy.

She's into SS now, even though she has had many tubes before.

To the rest of the group--i heard the new Contour 5.4s as well this weekend.  I thought my Solos were definitely in the same league.  The C4s need a large room as they put more bass out, so the C2s are really my only choice, and yes sa-dono i have been tempted by the 6k used pair :)

John- are you a Rowland dealer now?  I agree the 201s would be perfect amps for me

No, but I haven't checked into it.  I've been known to suggest toys I don't carry, if they are reputed to be good ones, or I have heard them with my own ears.

Speakers

Hey, MadDog, any developments in your speaker upgrade path to Ref3?

Coincidentally, on this Saturday, So Cal Horn Society meeting was held at Edgarhorn in Gardena.  I hadn't been there in awhile so I went.  Curiously, everyone was busy talking outside, so I got to listen to the Titan/seismic horn-sub almost all by myself for about 5 hours :)

Oh, my.  Everyone and anyone even remotely interested in state-of-the-art speaker technology should at least listen to the Titan/Seismic horn-sub combo once well set-up.  No coloration, no distortion, no emphasis/pyrotechnics.  I've decided to eventually buy these speakers as soon as I can afford them and have the room.

Of course, I haven't heard the maxed-out RM40 or RM/X yet.  Wonder if John got them in yet..
