4B ST Compared to New 4BSST2?
« on: 24 May 2010, 04:11 pm »
Hello,

Just wanted to know how much of a difference is there from the old amp to the new in terms of sound quality?  What does the new amp do better that the older amps didn't.   And is it a night and day difference?  Would love some insight into this. :D

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave

If you do a search there’s a fair amount of info on the topic, but the SST for me had a very noticeable clarity and naturalness at the top end. I moved up to 4BSST from a 3BST so cannot really compare the bottom end. I sat on the fence for quite awhile but wished I moved up sooner.

I moved from a 3B  ST to a 3B SST and  completely agree with rob80b's description of the positive changes. From my reading there is less of a change form SST to SST2.

BUT- there are rarely night and day changes in audio. High end audio is all about relatively minor and subtle changes ( especially with anything other than loudspeakers) . Each audiophile has to decide how meaningful, ( and they can be very meaningful ) each of these often very expensive changes means to their own musical enjoyment.
