Kismet Reference Speakers? Questions
« on: 22 May 2010, 11:14 pm »
Does anyone have any info on the Kismet Reference speakers they can share with me?  Since I will be purchasing sight unseen and heard, any info would be quite helpful.

As an owner of 2 sets of Lorelei's, welcome to the club of the unknowing owners. I hope you'll love your Kismets as much as I've loved my Lorelei's for the last 7 years.   :thumb:

Not to worry, you've made a  good decision. These speakers are a true bargain and hard to beat at any price. There are only a few that I can't afford, or wouldn't fit in my room, that I would  think of replacing mine with.

I just bought a pair of Kismet Reference off of Audiogon.  I should have them for the weekend.  I am curious as to weather they play rock well?  I listen to a lot of rock and also all the other audiophile stuff, but love rock.  I hope the bass is decent as my DeVore Gibbon 8 speakers were very thin in the bass.  I also hope these speakers throw a large sound.  Can anyone reassure me?

Are these the same size as the Loreli's?  What makes these speakers a Kismet Reference compared to the Loreli?

Thanks,

Bob

They rock seriously.  Anyone who has heard Klaus's demos at RMAF can attest to that.  Kismet has, at the least, upgraded crossover components.  That pair on a'gon was a steal.

Yes, what a steal!  I almost bought them, for my second system,  just because of that. Don't fret about the bass, you'll have plenty.

The reason I purchased the Kismet speakers is because I heard them at RMAF and no matter what genre of music that was played through them, they sounded great. I am confident you will be pleased with the sound.

I would like to thank everyone for your responses.  I should be receiving the speakers tomorrow.  For  astethic reasons (waf), I will have to keep them close to the wall when not in use.  When I am going to sit down and listen to something, I will pull them out from the walls.  My only question is should the speakers be toed in, or left pointing straight ahead?

My Lorelei's require very minimal toe-in, the drivers converge about 8' behind my head. You can always do a search of my username & Lorelei as I've had plenty to say about these loudspeakers for the last 6+ years. Hopefully there will be some simularity between the Lorelei's & the Kismet.  :dunno:

I use my Loreleis pointing straight ahead. I have a huge 3d sound stage.

Today, Mr. Fedex brought me a wonderful pair of Odyssey Kismet Reference Speakers which I purchased from a fellow Audiophile off Audiogon. I don't know where to start. The cabinetry is of unbelieveable quality and the color is a beautiful Santos Rosewood finish. Each speaker weighs a little over 80 pounds and it is a two way design.

I have the speakers positioned about 25" from the rear wall and toed in ever so slightly. I will get right to it, the bass is the BEST bass that I have ever heard in my living room. It is very deep, taut, articulate and defined. The mids and highs are very sweet and finally, I can listen to Pink Floyd play in all their grandness. I played a mix of rock, jazz and classical this afternoon, and no matter what I played, I wasn't disappointed. I found for the first time in a long while, I wasn't picking the music apart, you know the note sounds wrong, etc. I found myself really immensed in the music.

I have yet to install the floor spikes/cones. That will be done in about a week, once the speakers have settled in. Looks like I will be staying in most of this long weekend, enjoying the music.
