Legacy 4B - input sensitivity?
« on: 22 May 2010, 02:00 pm »
I read the manual on the legacy section of the Bryston site, but no mention of the  input sensitivity is made.

Anyone have an idea what the  input sensitivity of a legacy 4B is?

I would bet it's 0.775V = rated output, assuming a reasonable impedance match which shouldn't be a problem with a conventional Solid State preamp.

Depending on the age it could be as much as 1.4 volts for full output.

Ha! I remember a thread where someone had trouble driving it with his preamp (couldn't get enough volume) but it worked great with a different preamp at the dealer?

This might explain it.....

And therein lies my concern, the Superphon SP-100 is a legacy zero gain, zero feedback, direct-coupled, high slew rate impedance converter, and input selector with a decent quality stereo pot. In addition, Stan Warren upgraded this unit a few years back to modernize it.

The 4B is an '81.

I've been using a 120 watt class D diy amp with the Superphon, and it works fine, so I can't beleive the 4B will be an issue, but you never know. (The 4B is out for repair and hasn't been hooked up yet).
