So, now that it's finally gonna be pressed on DVD, are you going to pick it up for the approx $50 the set'll be even though it's not going to be the original versions, but the newer "Special Editions"?

No, I'm not kidding.

I'm not exited by it as I've already got both versions on LD, and the best LD player ever built to watch them on.

Maybe if it gets changed back to Han shooting first, having Jabba not look so F'in retarded in Ep. 4, and there's some new interesting extras, then I might buy it.

Of course I might just buy it if I've got the $ when it hits, and there's nothing else to buy. Gotta pick up something every week or two or I go through withdrawals...

Nope...If I bought it there would be the six movie set within 3 years. I'd rather wait for the whole deluxe edition package. Anyone see that Aliens set? That's a movie package!!...there's a documentary about making each movie, plus some others for I think a 10 disk set. I'm sure when everything's said and done Star Wars will have the same thing, and I'd rather wait.

You know, I wasn't so miffed with the Jabba scene...and yeah, the part where Greedo (?) shoots first looked *really* lame, but it didn't ruin the movie for me.  But for me, the biggest flaw in the "remastered" Episode 4 was the way they re-cut the final space battle scene.  It didn't seem *nearly* as well-paced or as exciting as the original.  not sure why that is (I haven't watched them back to back to see the differences)...but something just seemed out of wack...

As much as I'm burned out by the prequels I haven't sat down to watch the original trilogy in years.  I own the THX originals on VHS (widescreen) but never watch them.  Hell my VHS player is currenlty in storage.

IOW I'll be buying the set.

Lucas has botched the epic potential of this storyline in a way that defies description. "Sell-out" doesn't even approach it.

However... We will be buying them, no question.  :?  Maybe I'll rip the whole thing to my HD and re-cut it as close as I can get to the original.

Makes me want to build a HTPC/Hi-res audioPC...

My wife is the star Wars fan in the house. I bought her the videos when they came out. Then the "special edition" videos came out and I bought those for her. I think I'll skip the DVD release and just wait for the "special edition" DVD.

If I may state the obvious:  If you don't like what Lucas has done, then by all means don't buy the damn thing.  That is your only means of protest.  Buying something you don't agree with just encourages this type of thing to continue.

I agree, Nathan.  I will not be buying these.  If I decide I'd like the original (snob) releases, which is what I will probably want, I'll just buy a laserdisc player and pick up the original LDs.

It's a bummer that Lucas has decided not to release the original theatrical release.

So much for re-living my childhood.   8)

I've got the dvd version of the laserdiscs for these three and while they aren't up to DVD standards they look and more importantly sound MUCH better than any VHS copy could.  Sure, there are a couple hiccups but for the most part they are very watchable - and - the original versions.  So, I'm going to most likely hold off and hope the petition does some good.

I certainly wouldn't put it past ol' George to "claim" there will never be an original version, sell this enhanced three pack - interestingly close to the end of the final installment in theaters and then put together a 6 pack of all the originals.

If that doesn't happen, well, fine.  I'll always be able to pick up the botched three pack to go with the DVD releases of Ep. 1, 2 & 3.

You could also burn the DVD to the harddrive and excise the *offending* scenes pretty easily, I think.  Then burn it back to DVD and create a region free disc w/o copy protection or a lot of unwanted extras.
