Sqeezebox behaving freakily
« on: 18 May 2010, 03:36 am »
I've been trying to get Logitech support to help me resolve spontaneous track skipping, stopping, and constant interruptions in the server connection to no avail.  It happens with both the duet and the classic, in wired or wireless modes (I did the factory reset and confirmed that it was in wired mode).  The first suggestion was to follow the guide for ESET NOD32 users...everything the guide said to do was already done.  It's probably some weird firewall thing that updated itself.  Who knows, but it's really irritating.

So, while waiting for the next suggestion from Logitech I loaded foobar2000 for the first time and connected a USB cable to my Benchmark DAC1.  Good stuff, this Foobar2000.  If I didn't want to connect more than one system wirelessly with internet radio, I'd drop the squeezebox for sure.

Any suggestions for fixing this weirdness are welcome, but I feel better just venting.

I had similar problems when I went to server 7.5.0.  What worked for me was excluding MYD and MYI in my virus protection software.

Thanks!  I'll give that a whirl.  Still not a peep from Logitech.

I'm having problems too. :(  My wireless connection won't automatically pick up my SB3. Maybe I'll revert back to an earlier version of the server software.

Also try 7.5.1  I believe there were some bugs in 7.5.0. Not sure if they relate to your problem but worth a try.

I tried 7.5.1: no good.

The problem was escalated at Logitech, and I've sent transcoder logs at their request so they can try to figure out what's up with my squeezebox connection.  I'll let you know what happens in case it helps somebody else out there.

How about going back to an earlier version. I had issues with 7.4 until I 'reverted' back to 7.3.
Work great now, no bugs.

If you guys are running Windows machines alot of times when Windows updates itself the SB will get wiggy. I disabled auto updates to windows and haven't had a problem yet...FWIW!!!

At Logitech's request I sent them a .flac file and a transcoder log so that they could try to figure out what was going on.  I say "was" because the problems mysteriously disappeared on their own.  I told the person working on my case that the problem seems to be gone, and the invitation to re-open it if needed was extended.  I'm glad it has resolved itself, but I sure wish I knew what was screwing everything up for a couple months.

A windows update messed it up, and a subsequent update "un-messed" it up?  :dunno:
Glad to hear it's working though.

That's possible.  Windows makes the automatic updates transparent, and I can't pinpoint the day when my SB went bonkers.  I may never know, but it's hard to imagine that somebody else, somewhere, didn't have the same issue.
