Can somebody post a photo of the SP2 display?
« on: 10 May 2010, 02:39 pm »
My SP2 went away for 3 months because it was totally out of order. Also the display is replaced, but I think it's not the old display. So is there somebody who can show a photo of the display? Of course when the SP2 is on.

Thx

Maybe there is somebody from Bryston who can tell me how it must look like? James?

No it doesn't look weird, but it look likes the display from the SP1.7 and not the SP2.

Hi,

Yes we recently changed the displays on the SP2 to a better unit so it will look different than early versions of the SP2. The new display has a much longer lifetime.

But mine big problem is that I don't like this one. One of the reasons to buy a SP2 instead of a SP1.7 was his display. All the displays of my other equipment are the same, now that is changed.

This new display also give a lot more light and in a dedicated home theather this is not what you want.
The second problem what I have with this display is that it doesn't get soft. The other display went soft after a few seconds and you didn't notice that there was a display.

With other words I want the other back is that possible?

Hi,

No I am sorry they have discontinued the other display so it is no longer available. We have been using the newer version for quite a while now.

Why this downgrade on the SP2? I mean I bought the Bryston because of this feature (softing the light of the display). Why is this not possible with this display, it cann't be that difficult to also softing the light with this display?

If Honda's idea of fixing an issue with my dashboard would be replacing the whole dashboard with a different make/model/look, I would be kinda pissed off big time.

Well I do not know how to respond guys - it is what it is - we either had to go to a newer more reliable display or stop making/upgrading the SP2?

it is what it is

That is to simple. I'm a little suprised by this remark. How is it possible to change a product like this and leave out a feature and then saying it is what it is .

I choose for Bryston because it had this feature and because they told me that Bryston give a good service. Now I have a different product and yes I'm little bit pissed.
This SP2 cost me more then a good secondhand car so I suspect a lot more than this.

I mean it's still a wonderfull product but this is not what I bought.

Was this a repair under warranty or after warranty expired?

Given that the digital stuff gets only 5 years warranty we would expect that Bryston stocks enough original replacement parts.

I can take it that for an amp that I bring for repair after 20 years they could replace a component with a different brand/make. But 5 years is not that long.

Hmmmm......

I am sorry Hoiman but we are at the mersy of the display manufacturers and I have contacted the manufacturer and it is not possible to turn down the drive voltage to the current display.

I am a symmetric freak and this would also drive me up the wall - I feel bad for both parties involved.

Oh for Pete’s sake, I just noticed that the edges of my BP 26 faceplate does not match my MPS 2 rounded edges.

Yeah but that you could have noticed at purchase time and take a decision accordingly.

What happened here is that Hoiman has a piece of gear under warranty and now it looks and works different than at purchase time.

Kinda' if you sent one of your B28's for service and it comes back with a blue LED that won't turn red at clipping. "Sorry but we ran out of green LEDs however this blue one will last longer; it won't go red at clipping but you can do without clipping anyway".

I'd like blue lights or the same backlighting that is on my remotes on my 28Bs :thumb:,green is fine.
thank christ the display lights work on Bryston as both my DD-15s after a year, you can hardly tell the logo is lit.Velodyne said they are sealed and can't changed out, 3000 a sub and velodyne can't even get the logo light to stay lit up.
So I bought a JL- 113 and now I think i'll buy another,no more velodyne for this guy.
Geez I guess I'm a bit wound up,hmm, where's the wife ,second thought I'll go spin some discs
and turn her up 8).

You should be happy they don't go on brighter and brighter :o

Just a quick question guys. If a product is under warranty and, following a failure covered by the warranty terms, the manufacturer cannot bring back the product to the parameters specified in the manual (i.e. dimmable display), would the customer be entitled to a refund?

Actually, I just noticed it - oh well perhaps a faceplate change is due. I agree Nap when you get used to the look and "feel" of your gear and it gets changed around :o

On a side note - I have seen the 28B SST clipping while driving the 1400s at my demo - it felt like an earth quake in the store [Japanese(?) steroid drums :o]
I do not know if the 28B SST² would clip under the same circumstance and there is no way that I am going to try it at home :nono:

Be well...
