« on: 7 May 2010, 10:16 pm »
OK...I discovered Radiohead...I know, I know I've been under a rock!!
I got:
"In Rainbows"-today from library, a big score, its awesome.
 "The Bends"-is on its way
Which one next..."OK Computer"?? or another pick??
Thanks in advance for the input! :thumb: :thumb:

Given what you have said so far, it sounds like you really like Radiohead. So, it really does not matter what you get next as you will eventually get all of them. But, if you don't have it yet, I would say get KID A -- my second favorite next to In Rainbows.

Enjoy!!!   :guitar:

I second Kid A over OK Computer.  I think I like Hail to the Thief 3rd best after Kid A and the Bends.

I really love some of the tracks from Pablo Honey, but I haven't heard it in ages and forget how it stands up as an album to the rest of the collection.

Added:  If you have ever heard a rap song you can remotely stand, I highly recommend Jaydiohead.   It's a collection of lyrically strong Jay-Z songs over Radiohead tracks....I'm not sure how to go about buying it, but it's brilliant. 99 Anthems is my favorite by far. The rest you can take or leave depending on if you like Jay Z to begin with or not.

Any reason why you cant get them all? I'd stay away from Pablo Honey but all the others should be had and can be found easily in the used section of most record stores.

I'll go against the grain here.  OK Computer is my favorite followed by In Rainbows.  But really, all of them are great (except Pablo Honey, that one's just OK).

I would get Ok Computer next, as it represents their most successful innovative (at the time) effort...but is quite accessible.  The Bends, the album before OK, is even more accessible and is their first masterpiece (I consider Radiohead almost as important as The Beatles and consider everything from The Bends on to be true masterpieces.)  When you move into Kid A (often listed as my fave.....I change though  :)  ) and Amnesiac (fave 1A) you get a less accessible (and therefore, to me, an even more lasting) album.  But once they hit you (could be 10th time you hear them) you're caught...you're done.  Then top it all off with Hail To The Thief, a 60 min cd that is as good as the rest (best recorded..won engineering Grammy that year).

I am 56 years old and my now 24 yr old son Mike, and his buddy, turned me on to Radiohead on our annual family Hilton Head trip back in 2003 (he had bought me Amnesiac a couple years earlier but it stayed unopened or at least unheard).  Hail to The Thief was the album, and on the second or third spin (in the car) the song "There There" hooked me....the band hasn't been off my playlist or out of my car in the past 7 years.  :)  Saw them at Bonnarroo (with Mike) in 2006 and it was quite a life experience (saw them again 2 yrs ago here locally).

Weird Radiohead fact...several Radiohead fanatics I know (myself included) couldn't tell you the names of the songs from Pablo Honey (their first album).  It's as if aliens abducted them in between that album and The Bends.  And another Radiohead weirdism...Creep was a huge hit for them, and is almost never played live.  No one wants to hear it, either.   :)

Finally, once you are deep into all six of the masterpieces....then venture out to the B-Sides.   :thumb:

I love them all.  But I really find it's like older Beatles and newer Beatles.  If you like the straight out rock - Pablo and The Bends.  I diagree with the others on Pablo, I think it's still an amazing album.  If you like the more creative (later albums), my fav is OK Computer.  If I had to pick my fav alround - OK Computer.  Funny (since I haven't listened to it for about four months) but I'm actually listening to it now on vinyl.  I just put it on the table an saw your post.  Weird.  In Rainbows might be my least favourite, with the exception of the odd moment of brilliance.  When I say least favourite, it's still fantastic.  We are talking Radiohead here!

By the way, if you like Radiohead, listen to Broken Social Scene's album You Forgot it in People.  Slow penetrating, but WELL worth the wait.  Great stuff.

For fucks sake...I forgot all about Amnesiac.  What a great album!  My order:

1. The Bends
1a. Amnesiac
2. Kid A
3. Hail to the Thief
4. OK Computer
(I saw the Rainbows tour but never bought the album, and basically forget Pablo Honey minus a few songs)

Really good b-sides on some of their singles too, like the Zero7 & Fila Brazillia remixes of Climbing Up the Walls on this one:

Gives you something to do once you get them all.

We're on the same page.  EP's like My Iron Lung and b-sides to OK and the KidA/Amnesiac stuff are legendary.  Who has so much stuff that they don't put things like Cuttooth, Lull, A Reminder or Palo Alto on their main album?   :green:

Just get them all :D. OK Computer is probably their best, IMO it's the best album ever recorded, but all the others are close behind. Except Pablo Honey, which is inconsistent but still has some ungodly good tracks... like 'Thinking About You' & 'Blow Out'. Some of their best material is also either B-Sides or unreleased, so next pick up the Itch EP, Airbag/How am I Driving?, My Iron Lung EP, etc.

Don't forget Hail to the Thief. Anyone see the deluxe editions that have been released of some of the RadioHead stuff?

Hail has great sound quality, but to me OK Computer is beyond anything they have created.
BTW, pardales, I am enjoying Insight+DAC now :thumb:
