Danny R and I spent most of the day measuring and listening to 8 projects. The first place project was an MMTMM using the MCM 5" 55-1870 woofers and an upgraded AV123 tweeter.  It was a really fine little speaker that would fit in well with the best of many commercial offings- and easily upholds the goal of "Better than Bos_"--  clean and detailed with surprisingly extended bass.  Congrats to a hard working team that accomplished at a high level.

Thanks, Rich.  The top projects were all very nice, and the next tier down can be moved up with small modifications.  Overall, I think that we are seeing the projects evolve and become more sophisticated.  The winner this year is a 2.5 way with full baffle step compensation.  Those little MCM woofers really overachieve.

The second place group had a relatively simple two way with a GR-Research M130 and a Vifa D19 (the picture below is captioned incorrectly in my gallery).  The Danny noted that the Vifa was a "bit soft in the top end" - my comment was "upper piano lacking a bit of detail".  Both of us commented on how smooth and musical on vocals and both commented on excellent imaging.  Overall, I think the key comment that I had was that I found myself not evaluating and just listening to the music.  The bass was deep and clean with just a hint of boom.  This project would compete very well with all but the top of commercial small monitors.  If I remember correctly, it was a second order on tweeter and woofer with baffle step comp with a crossover around 3200Hz.
