Thorens 224 turntable in a suitcase!

This is a bit unusual. In effect a Thorens 124 but with the legendary autochanger that made this unit famous and very rare.

The unit, very unusually, is in a lovely rosewood box which opens like a suitcase ( complete with white rubber bungs at one end so it can rest on the floor ) with one side being the plinth complete with Thorens tonearm and cartridge.

My understanding is that these units were the portable version of the 224 and were often used in clubs so the likes of Miles Davis et al coull could be stacked while the customers enjoy themselves.

The box has 2 plug sockets in the wall of the wood at one end and whilst I can't vouch for how it will sound it is in very good condition.

I believe these units were made in Switzerland and I have checked that only 4000 were ever made so I would be interested to know how many were made in this suitcase mount as whilst I have looked online I can't find a picture of one that looks like mine as they were generally placed on a fixed plinth as with other turntables.

If you can shed any light on it's history I would be interested.

I have no idea what it is worth? I have no knowledge of these matters and got this unit when I was sold the other 2 units I have put on the site today. In fact I have never bought a turntable for over 35 years since I bought these units at the weekend!
