Hi,

I have a Buffalo32s DAC that I'm trying to feed from the USB connection on my MacBook but I can't get it to work.  The DAC has an optical input too, which works, but I'm told the USB on the DAC sounds better so I'm really keen to get it working.  I know the USB input on the DAC has worked in the past on someone else's system so I'm thinking there might be a setting on the MacBook.  Am I wrong?

I don't think that it is Plug and Play.  I believe you will need to go to System Preferences > Audio > Output and select the USB output (if the Buffalo DAC is indeed recognized).
