The Cobalt 307 is a great DAC. I have one playing the tunes from my Apple TV. Far better sounding than a DAC that age has any right to IMO. I've compared it to current DACS, and it definitely holds it's own.
What Bryston said is definitely true - the power supply, analog outputs, etc are more important than the DAC chip used, not that the chip isn't important.
