I think this was the company I got a quote from for a project that never happened.  I thought the price for the boxes was quite reasonable considering what the caps and inductors I was considering were going to cost.

wine.com has a warehouse and store on 4th street in berkeley. they have piles of wood wine boxes/crates (some with slide on lids). i think that that they discard/recycle many/most of them. call the store and ask. if they won't give them to you, PM me and i'm sure that i can get you a few. i know a few of their employess and have been given a few myself...
