Anyone here used Ultrabit Platinum Plus?
« on: 25 Apr 2010, 09:41 am »
Hello all:

I have been  hearing off and on about Ultrbit Platinum Plus. It is supposed I am told to improve the sound and reduce record wear. Has anyone here used this product or know anyone that has?

Thanks

it's the first product ever that enhances the playback and fidelity of both laser-read media and vinyl records!
Snake oil.  Nothing can "enhance" the playback of laser read (CD DVD) media other than a pristine scratch free surface.  Even then either the laser will read the pits or it won't.
Does this stuff improve the sound of CDs?  It's can't by the definition of how a CD is read.  Could it improve the reliability of the laser pickup?  Maybe, but nothing over what you can do yourself with soap and water.

As for vinyl, I'm skeptical of an all purpose product with dubious claims.
For me, LAST record treatment and Gruv-Glide have long etablished reputations with products that actually work as advertised.

While I agree that a lot of CD tweaks are pretty useless (the green pen, certain CD mats) there are a number of products and treatments I've used which I've found to improve CD playback. Among them the Herbie's "black hole", Auric Illuminator and cryo treating CD's.

Perhaps you could tell us some of the products you've tried that don't work?

With respect to vinyl treatments, I am leery. My experience with a vinyl cleaning fluid which contains a stylus lubricant was not positive and definitely affected playback in a negative way. I'd be reluctant to try any product on my vinyl  unless it was easily cleaned off/removed and I might be mistaken but I don't believe that to be the case with products like LAST or Groove Glide.
