Cornet packaging question
« on: 7 Feb 2004, 04:48 am »
Greetings to all,

I wish to build a Cornet kit having minimal overall height.  Is it acceptable to mount all of the taller caps on the backside of the board next to the tube sockets?

Here’s my latest concept:  I would like to mount the board down to an aluminum base plate.  Cavities machined into the base will facilitate resistors and smaller components.  The transformer will mount directly to the base.  All connections will be attached to an aluminum flange secured to the base.  The whole assembly will be covered with a box-shaped lid made from perforated aluminum sheet.  All will be covered except for a portion of the rectifier that will stick out through a hole.  The glowing tubes will be freely seen through the perforated metal.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

SHIF,

Tube sockets are mounted to the backside of the Cornet board.  You won't need to mill out any space for components.  Use 1/4" standoffs and a 2" tall box is fine.  If you want it smaller, the lay the electrolytic caps on their sides.

jh :)
