BP6 faceplate swap - pics :)
« on: 15 Apr 2010, 05:26 pm »
Hi everyone,

When I upgraded my preamp and amp to Bryston, I ended up with mis-matched colors.  My preamp is black and the amp is silver (which I prefer).  I took the black preamp because it was a dealer demo and I got a great deal.  Anyway, Bryston let me purchase a brand new silver face for the preamp which I have now installed.  I thought I'd share pics of the process for anyone that is interested.  Also a nice shot or two of the preamp guts.

The process went pretty smooth.  The only glitch was pulling the knobs since I had never encountered anything with more than 1 set screw.  I only noticed one set screw and after I pulled them out, the knobs still wouldn't come off (even though I tuggged on them pretty hard, LOL).  It took my wife to point out the second set screw on each knob.  Then they came right off.  I had to buy a weird square head bit for my screw driver to get the case screws out.  After that, the swap was a breeze.

I love the look.  I'm really glad I did this.  I feel like I've got a brand new preamp, again...

Nice job. Now I know why my BP6 gets warmer in the rear right corner.

And now you have to find a dark dot for the volume knob  :eyebrows:

$200 plus shipping...

Saved about $100 doing it myself and I didn't have to live without my preamp for a month... Plus it was fun  :D

Cool, jax. My BP6 looks exactly like yours. The silver faceplate on that looks awesome, imo.

I've got that same Husky screwdriver set.  Set me back a whole $4.99 at the Home Depot.

Good work Jax.  I was contemplating changing my B60's black faceplate to a new style silver faceplate, but Mike Pickett said there's a lot more to it than what you had to do.

Now all that's left is the power conditioner and CD player.  Ever see NAD's gear in silver?  Not very nice.  And the pics look better than in person.

Ok got the faceplate and knobs from Tom.
My B60R came from a studio so the original inputs on the front were all named input1. 2 etc, a little tricky installing as one pin did not line up so had to drill a new hole, no big deal as the studio had to drill one in the face plate of the original front as there was no hole for the remote sensor even though it is a B60R.
Not as nice as Tom's silver upgrade but an improvement all the same.

Original faceplate

Inputs selector on original

Drilled hole for sensor

New SST face plate

New facelift in place

Of course I'm bound to say this, but I think it looks fantastic!  It really updates the whole amp.  Looks like the current model now which is more elegant IMO.  Nice job!

I'm sure everyone caught this, economy of scale, the BP6 is the B60 without the amp.

Just in case some are wondering what’s that discman is doing on top of the B60, the B60 is used to power some Dynaudio Contour 1.3MKII as rears running direct from the analogue out of the Blu-Ray player up front. I recently put all new drivers in the Contours and needed something to break them in.
Too bad the B60 does not get to show off it’s new face as it’s hidden behind the couch.

Rob -

What year is your B60?  Your original faceplate is the same as mine.  I wanted to change it to the current faceplate, but was told it would be a lot of work.

How hard was it?  How long did it take?  Other than the hole for the sensor, what else did you have to drill?  How much did it cost?

Sorry if I'm hijacking.  Just interested in knowing if I thought it was harder than it actually is.
