need quick help...47ai question
« on: 4 Feb 2004, 08:16 pm »
I'm about to buy a 47ai for what seems to be a good price, $450. Anyway, I thought the deal was almost done and I just got this email from the seller...

"It has an "R" stamp next to Serial Number, and don't
know if it is refrebuish or a return item.

The unit works perfectly."

...any of you helpful audiocircle people know what this "R" is about? The price is lower than every other 47ai on audiogon, and being able to have it upgraded by modwright for use as a transport were reasons to act quick.

Never heard of that,  maxwalrath, sorry.  But I wonder, have you thought about getting the DV-45 instead?  It's about $350 brand new, and I thought I remembered hearing that it's about the same as a modding platform.  Have you checked with Dan about it?

Here's what Dan had to say on the subject a while ago..."The 47Ai has the same analog stage and DACs, but also features better video and a proprietary digital out for SACD/DVD-A." It sounds like it's a better transport with better video. The 45a's on agon are at $350 right now, so I thought that for an extra $100 it was worth it. If everything works out I'm curious to see how it compares to my 9000es. I'm not expecting it to better it, I just hope it's close.

Damn you, I was going to email that guy about the 45ai. Guess I won't now...

Pioneer Refurb/B-Stock will have a B designation after it. If it was a refurb, it'd be a DV-47AiB.

Will you use the video section?  A better analog stage and video output wouldn't matter in a player used only as a tranport.  I'm not trying to talk you out of the '47, just wondering aloud with you, there.  I had a '45 and it was a nice transport, but I never tried a '47.
