New ClearAudio table in house
« on: 6 Apr 2010, 03:39 am »
Well, it was a rough weekend with some simply nasty events in our hood, but I did get a new table early last week. No time to set it up completely as I'm busy with another project for AC members.

So, I pretty much just unpacked it, oiled the bearing and dropped the platter on.

We may be moving so the wall mount (not shown but I'll post pics of Steve's bracket) may not even go up in the near future.

Oh, and be warned. This table is shown online (Germany) with a silver acrylic version which is what I ordered. However, the importer, Musical Surroundings, sent my dealer a silver model with black platter as that is all they are importing. They feel the Delrin (POM), I think it is poloxoethylene ? is highly superior to the acrylic. I swear it feels MUCH heavier than I would have anticipated. They offered me an exchange but I think I'm keeping the Delrin platter. It's an Innovation Compact with CMB bearing and it has an optical speed control which is SPOT on; I let it run for an hour or two after oiling. I really like that it has the trimmers and the optical speed control sensor, not to mention the magnetic bearing.

Very Sweet!

What arm and which Grado are you mounting?

Will I be seeing you on COPS soon?

Sorry for the blurry pics; I need to retake them out of respect for German engineering!  :duh:

Someone asked me if we live in Detroit.

I have the MG1 air bearing (pictured) which I have used before in conjunction with Grado carts. I will use a Statement Reference1 w/ flat gain and digital RIAA. I should devote this thread to documenting my setup and giving credit to those who have made it possible, namely Richard Tollerton and Jitipee.

Equipment

Nitty Gritty RCM Mini-Pro
Clearaudio Innovation Compact AMG Wood 70mm
MG1 Airbearing Tonearm (directly wired to AEA)
Grado Reference1 (Statement .5mv)

AEA Big Ribbon preamp (flat gain) 35K input impedance

Black Lion "Macroclock" (modified MKII Microclock)
Mytek 192 ADC (clocked to Macroclock)
Lynx AES16 (clocked to Macroclock)

Recording

Wavelab 6
NR: Wavelab 6 & iZotope RX
Dither: Ozone 4 Mbit+

Word Clocks: BNC
Digital: AES

Cardas Neutral ref. (AEA>Mytek)//Silver litz (tonearm)//Xhadow XLR (digital AES/EBU)

Monitoring/Recording Chain

RCM ( #9 Stylus Cleaner>Zerodust) > TT (speed check w/ Digistrobe) > Grado Ref. Statement1> AEA pre> Mytek ADC 192  > Lynx AES 16  > Samplitude Digital RIAA VST plugin 96kHz (monitoring) > Wavelab 6 @ 32bit-float 96kHz (recording)

Comments

Post-processing workflow for archiving:  Wavelab 6 error detection markers, open file in iZotope RX Advanced remove clicks manually, open in Wavelab 6 and apply Digital RIAA VST, Mbit+ dither to 24bit  > individual FLAC files. No silence has been removed.

Wow, that's beautiful.

IMO delrin is superior to acrylic.
