Do you find the traps-defusers behind the speakers do a decent job?

When I first got the acoustic panels I thought the impact was subtle, but recently I had to move my system to our other spare bedroom to make room for temporary guests. That room is identical in size, but does not have the panels on the wall. I was surprised how much better my system sounds with the panels in place. In particular, the bass is noticable cleaner and tighter. My speakers are rear ported and fire into those panels. I definately think they are making a noticable difference. The audio pic panels shown in the last pic I posted are also acoustic panels.

lol, it's not glowing. It's just a little white circle sticker. I don't have great eyes and I like to be able to visually see about where the volume is set from across the room. That sticker solves the problem for me...

Well, I only use it as a transport. I'm sending the digital out to my benchmark DAC1. I love the benchmark DAC1. However, with that said, I did use the NAD as a stand alone player for many months prior to acquiring the dac, and it's a dynamite player. I've tried a few competitors including rega, marantz, and musical fidelity. I prefer the NAD hands down to those fine players. IMO it's a true bargain and can easily compete with other more respected players. I have never heard the Bryston player, so I cannot comment on how it would compete. But I like the NAD/Benchmark combo so much I don't see this changing anytime soon (although for aesthetics the Bryston CDP would look very nice).

The NAD/Benchmark combo is crisp clean, and lively sounding. Plenty of bite, with lots of transparency. Yet, for me, it's not too digital sounding. Of course my Dyns help smooth any rough edges. Good synergy.

Hi Jaxwired

Time to start saving you're pennies, before picking up the Bryston BCD-1 I had great hopes on the Benchmark DAC1 which I auditioned for a month using a Teac VRDS-20 as a transport. Although not a bad sounding unit I was ill prepared by the gains the Bryston had over the DAC1, "not too digital sounding" was a term put to rest after the BCD-1 joined the roster.

We have seen this with the stickers on the volume control before, maybe Bryston should make a volume knop with a tiny led light built in?

Which NAD CDP are you running? I've owned a few of their CDPs (and integrateds) in the past and found them to be fantastic for the money. People always talk about their integrateds, but their real strength is their CDPs IMO.

But I have to disagree with one thing - once I went to a Rega Apollo, I never looked back. Everyone likes different things.

The Apollo is a fine player indeed. And I love that sexy top load door.

I'm using the latest C545bee. IMO better than the more expensive C565.

In general I think more money buys better sound in audio products, but I also think that some people let price guide decisions far too much. There are some budget products that are extremely good and depending on synergy, can really deliver a knock out sound.

My apologies to the OP for threadjack, but Stu - I find myself falling in love with my recently acquired Apollo, but the damn PC wont stay tight in the back of the unit. Does your's?

I'm about to build a diy PC for this reason.

And to stay at least in the Bryston world - "my 4B and Apollo make beautiful music together". There.

Forgot about this thread...

No problems with my PC staying in place. I've had that on different gear though. I used some electrical tape and wound it around the end of the PC once or twice. Worked everytime. Just make sure to use a bit of tension so the tape doesn't roll up on you. Also, go around once or twice at a time; too much and youll have to take some off, leaving residue.
